Jervis To Bring Different Dynamic To 3×3 Court Says Hire

Greg Hire says Tom Jervis will bring a different dynamic to the 3×3 court, as the duo prepare to team up with the Melbourne Hustlers at this weekend’s Sina Elite League.

Hire and Jervis, who won three NBL championships together with the Perth Wildcats, will join Tom Wright and Andrew Steel to form Melbourne’s team for this weekend’s tournament in China.

Jervis will be making his debut in the 3×3 format but Hire thinks he will be a positive addition, explaining how the big man provides the Hustlers with height they’ve never had before.

“We wanted to try a different tact,” Hire told The Dribble podcast.

“Tommy has never played 3×3 basketball, but he demonstrates grit and hardness and that’s what you need in that format. With a seven-footer we wanted to try a different dynamic, see how he goes.

“Team USA won the World Cup with a more agile sort of guy but the way they did it was sort of similar, you let guys shoot long twos and chase off the line, which we think we can do with Tommy.

“It’s exciting, I’m excited to go back and play.”

One of the world’s biggest 3×3 events, the Sina Elite League is an international tournament which features some of the globe’s best teams and players.

The number two ranked FIBA3x3 team in the world Liman will also be competing at the Sina Elite League, along with the highly talented squads of NY Harlem, Inanomo, Enerskin, Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy and more. Former NBA player Maurice Ager will also be playing in the event.

Schedules and game times will be released shortly.
