The FISU University 3×3 World Cup tips off this Thursday, with Australia having both a men’s and women’s team represented.

In the women’s category, The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) will participate, with Ali Burke, Maddy Norris, Rachel Duncan and Maja Jurlina set to hit the court in Xiamen, China.

UTS qualified for the FISU World Cup after winning the NBL 3×3 Big Hustle Uni earlier this year. They defeated Monash 12-11 in a thrilling grand final at the Big Hustle Uni, with Norris scoring a lay-up in the dying moments to secure the victory for UTS.

“The entire 3×3 basketball scene is really new to me and the team,” Norris said, via fisu.net.

“We have grown up playing five-on-five basketball and it is great to be learning another aspect of the sport. We have been training three times a week with one added gym session, as we have noticed that physicality is one of the major factors and we expect it to be very physical in Xiamen.”

UTS’ FISU World Cup campaign begins on Thursday October 31, when they play the Catholic University of Valparaiso at 6:10pm AEDT. They then play Szechenyi Istvan University at 8:50pm AEDT later that night, before concluding their pool stage matches against Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University at 6:10pm AEDT on Saturday November 2.

The finals will be played on Sunday November 3.
